Filed 2026-09-04. This review follows Grusch's public statements from his June 2023 debut through his August 2026 interview on The Dr. Phil Podcast.

Short answer

Grusch has claimed more firsthand access than the shorthand "he only heard stories" suggests. He says he personally investigated the issue, interviewed participants, read classified intelligence and program documents, examined photographs, and reviewed overhead and other military sensor collection that he could not explain conventionally. In August 2026, he made his clearest claim of direct exposure to alleged recovery evidence: retrieval-program personnel showed him unreleased photos and video that he says depicted recovered craft and cadavers.

He has not publicly said that he physically inspected a recovered craft, material, or body. He said in 2023 that he had not witnessed bodies himself, and in 2026 he distinguished viewing imagery from being "hands-on" or seeing the objects in person. His claims about recovered vehicles, occupants, live detention, and communication therefore still depend on the authenticity and interpretation of records and imagery supplied by others, plus testimony from people he identifies as direct participants.

What he has not claimed to experience directly

At the July 2023 hearing, Rep. Andy Ogles asked whether Grusch had seen the spacecraft. Grusch replied that he had to be careful describing what he had seen firsthand and could answer in a closed session. That was a refusal to answer publicly, not a public statement that he had physically seen a craft. When Ogles immediately asked whether he had seen bodies, Grusch answered, "That's something I've not witnessed myself."

The August 2026 Dr. Phil interview clarifies part of that ambiguity. Grusch says he saw photos and video of craft and cadavers while also saying he was not "hands-on" and did not see them in person. His later "yeah" when asked whether he had seen cadavers refers back to the imagery under discussion. The two interviews are consistent if "witnessed" means physical, in-person observation.

He also says he has no personal experience of telepathic or other anomalous communication. His accounts of living occupants in detention, communication with them, and retrieval workers sensing communication near a vehicle are attributed to people he knows or interviewed. NewsNation likewise described him in 2023 as never having personally seen non-human intelligence.

In the public sources reviewed here, Grusch has not said that he personally recovered or handled wreckage, entered a storage site, examined a body, met a non-human intelligence, or participated in a reverse-engineering effort. His statement that he could direct authorized investigators to facilities "out west" is based on sources who knew the locations and on his historical knowledge of them, not a claim that he visited the holdings himself.

How his wording developed

  • June 2023: He led with testimony from program participants, plus foreign intelligence, program documents, photographs, and "other proof" that they supplied. He said the task force was denied access to the retrieval program.
  • July 2023: Under oath, he said he was "speaking to the facts as I have been told them." He clearly claimed personal review of military sensor collection and personal knowledge of alleged funding diversion. He attributed the non-human-biologics assessment to people with direct program knowledge, denied witnessing bodies, and deferred the craft question.
  • September-November 2023: He described military cases he analyzed, intelligence reports he read, program archives and paperwork he accessed, and radar data and photographs he reviewed. On Joe Rogan he said he had "some firsthand knowledge" that he hoped to discuss after security review, without defining it.
  • June 2026: He publicly narrowed his direct intelligence role to foreign human and signals intelligence, foreign views of the U.S. program, internal cross-checking, and U.S.-held audiovisual information.
  • August 2026: He explicitly said retrieval personnel showed him photos and video of recovered vehicles and cadavers. He also claimed limited access to UAP tracking signatures and unspecified downstream technology, while again distinguishing this from hands-on inspection.

Calling every Grusch claim secondhand is too broad. He claims firsthand work as an investigator and analyst, firsthand access to classified records and sensor products, and now firsthand viewing of imagery said to show recovered craft and bodies.

Calling him a firsthand crash-retrieval or non-human-contact witness is also inaccurate. His public account stops at records, data, imagery, interviews, and limited program access. The physical recoveries and beings are things he says other people handled, saw, analyzed, or interacted with.
