I’m Ben Schreckinger, a former POLITICO reporter who recently launched Paradigm.News to investigate UFOs

I know “Whistling Mike” has been discussed here before. I've published his true identity along with some new details about his saga and his plans.

Mike is Michael Spicer, a Wichita-area businessman. He says that more than 20 years ago he encountered a quiet, roughly triangular, fighter-jet-sized craft hovering low over public land in Kansas. He says he subsequently spent years trying to reverse-engineer aspects of its technology and developed a system intended to detect the craft.

Those are Spicer’s claims. I have not independently established that the craft exists or that his conclusions about its technology are correct.

What I was able to establish is that in 2023, Spicer briefed members and staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee about his findings. During that process, he left them with a dark, dense, porous rock - raw material that Spicer says he mined after determining that the same material is used in the craft.

Three people familiar with the episode told me the committee kept the object for months in a safe inside the Hart Senate Office Building.

I also obtained and published a photo of the material.

I’m the journalist who reported this story. “Whistling Mike,” who has been discussed here before, is Wichita-area businessman Michael Spicer. I report new details about his claims, his 2023 briefing to the Senate Intelligence Committee, material he left with the committee that was stored in a Hart Senate Office Building safe, his interactions with AARO and the FBI, and his plans to present more of his findings publicly next month.

A clarification because a lot of comments are understandably reacting to the photo: Spicer is not claiming this is a fragment that fell off the craft. He says it is raw material he later mined after determining that the material is used in the craft. I have not independently established that claim. The part I independently reported is that he brought this material to the Senate Intelligence Committee after briefing members and staff, and three people familiar with the episode say the committee kept it in a Hart Building safe for months. That institutional trail is why I thought the story was worth reporting.

Maybe if you’re entering this space as a former reporter, you could actually report credible news.

A ‘Wichita-area businessman’ saying he saw something and producing a random rock could’ve been a random story he made up when he got caught cheating on his wife.

Also isn’t the job of a reporter to independently establish the claims of their source before reporting on it? Otherwise you’re just a random dude posting hearsay online..

What makes this noteworthy is the level of engagement it received from the Senate Select Intelligence Committee, which according to three people familiar with the situation, including former committee staffer Jon Estridge, stored this rock in a safe for many months after considering Spicer's claims

I believe the truth or falsity of Spicer's story will become more evident over time as he presents more information publicly that can be scrutinized. But yes, it's certainly worth starting to document this episode now, given the federal government's interest in Spicer's claims.

Jon estridge… his daughter Amy estridge the woman who worked for nasa and claimed to have insider knowledge on ultra terrestrials an extra terrestrials and was working with anti matter and stuff and was claiming that people in the government were tryna have her killed and was attacking her then she ended up killing herself after she posted on Facebook an sent messages to colleagues and friends that if she died just know it wasn’t suicide? So her father is the committee staffer for intelligence… shit gets weirder and weirder especially when we’re locking up a rock

I believe that woman's last name was Eskridge. I don't have any reason to think those two people are related

I’m curious if theres any record/mention of the senate committee briefing?

I would be surprised if there were a record of it. I am confident such a meeting occurred based on my reporting. It's much less clear what people on the Senate side concluded about the claims Spicer made to them.

Ben I think this is a good thread to pull on. Q: How did a civilian reverse engineer craft materials ? A: He owned an aircraft company.

Spicer Aircraft Inc could be a smoking gun (or subsidiary of the common players up to and including Lockheed / Mitre)

He “found” a piece of craft. Back engineered it for composition (needs major tech resources). Determined a terrestrial source for those materials. Now showing that rock with the inclusions which may be the secret sauce.

If Spicer was knowing or unknowingly part of the legacy program this could be super interesting. He is a whistleblower…

I do want to figure out more about what businesses he may have set up for this process

Seems more likely to be ArchAngelRECON, not Spicer Aircraft

He was definitely involved with ArchAngelRECON, but I'm not clear on how much of his efforts were channeled through that group. I hadn't heard of Spicer Aircraft so don't know if it's part of the picture at all

Spicer Aircraft was based in Wichita but actually may not be the correct Michael Spicer - just a coincidence. Do you know the other co-founder of ArchAngel Recon ?

How would he know which material to "mine"?

His story is that he retrieved a piece of the craft, figured out what the piece was made of, and mined this material after determining that it was among the inputs

I hope OP can clear this up….Did something fall off the craft that he has in his possession? And after looking at that he determined this material in the picture is what it’s made from? I’ve heard him talk before and he’s said he’d brought pieces of that craft ( or shown ) to people in the government…was he showing the rock or the piece that fell off??

My understanding is that he showed both. But yes, this is raw material that he says he determined was an input to the piece he retrieved -- he is NOT claiming that this is a piece of the craft itself

Ben - if I’m hearing this correctly; spicer sees a ufo in the past, yadda yadda yadda, figures out what it’s stealth coating was made of… yadda yadda yadda digs up the unknown raw stealth material from an unknown place.

Well, of the 5 w’s in reporting, I think you’ve solidly locked down the “Who”.

Were it me, I think I might solidify the other 4 before reporting especially on a topic rife with “trustmebroism”; but you do you boo.

I am reporting this now because i've confirmed the senate intel committee recently had this object in its possession. That it and of itself makes this episode newsworthy. I am optimistic that further disclosures by Spicer and further reporting will get us closer to making a full assessment of his claims

Don't be deterred by the negative nancies in here. There is an open question as to how much of the discourse here is honest. On top of that, it would appear at least some of the people whose interest piqued two years ago have now become bitter at both the perceived lack of progress and the many public figures with seemingly dubious motives.

I will say i've been struck by the overwhelming negativity in the comments.
